The state’s indoor mask mandate will end on March 25, Gov. David Ige announced today.

During a news conference today, Ige said that, in the face of diminishing daily COVID cases and guidance from state and federal health authorities, the mask mandate will end at the same time as the rest of the state’s COVID restrictions.

State Health Director Elizabeth Char said the Department of Health recommends that the elderly and immunocompromised, as well as those who closely interact with them, continue to wear masks indoors even after March 25.

State epidemiologist Sarah Kemble said the DOH also recommends that people continue to wear masks inside schools.

Ige said he is prepared to reinstate the mask mandate should another COVID surge occur.
