A 54-year-old Riverside, Calif., man has been charged with attempted murder and numerous other charges stemming from a domestic incident that took place at a hotel on Banyan Drive in Hilo on Friday.

Arvil Reed is charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree terroristic threatening, kidnapping, two counts of second degree assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

Hilo patrol officers responded to the hotel shortly before 6 p.m. on Friday after a 45-year-old woman friend of Reed reported that he had struck her on the forearm and threatened to kill her while in their shared room.

Arriving officers found Reed in front of the hotel and arrested him without incident.

The woman was treated at the scene by fire rescue but refused to be taken to the Hilo Medical Center for further treatment.

Reed is in custody in lieu of $680,000 bail. His initial appearance is set for this afternoon in Hilo District Court.
