Police have identified the victim of a possible Christmas Day drowning in Kalapana as 41-year-old Oscar Odom of Puna, whom police say was a recent arrival from Alaska.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of a swimmer in distress along the Kalapana coastline. Fire rescuers pulled Odom from the ocean and began CPR with county lifeguards but were unable to resuscitate him.
