Jason Jitsuo Kawahara, 62, of Hilo died Dec. 1 at the Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Hospice Facility. Born in Hilo, he was a produce farmer and a member of the Hilo Meishoin Mission. Private services held. In lieu of flowers or koden (monetary gifts), donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of Hilo or Hilo Meishoin Mission. Survived by mother Matsue Kawahara of Hilo; brothers Melvin (Sandra) Kawahara and Terrence Kawahara, both of Hilo and Leslie (Sandy) Kawahara of Honolulu; niece Kellie (Seth) Kawahara-Niimi of Seattle; nephew Eric Kawahara of Honolulu; sister-in-law Claire Kawahara of Hilo and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. Wayne Nobuo Igawa, 77, of Hilo died Nov. 29 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Ola‘a, he was a mechanic for the former Keaau Banana Plantation and was a member of Hilo Meishoin. Private services held. Survived by brothers Melvin (Betty) Igawa of Las Vegas and James (Martha) Igawa of Keaau; sister Ann Igawa of Torrance, Calif.; sisters-in-law Mildred Igawa and Asako Igawa of Calif.; brother-in-law Bob Muramoto of Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Kenneth Hisao Kudo, 67, of Pahoa died Nov. 23 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired Hawaii Air National Guard Master Sergeant, an environmental monitoring assistant for the state Department of Health and a member of New Hope Hilo. Visitation to be held Dec. 28 from 9-10:30 a.m. at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo, with funeral service to begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial service to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 pavilion. Casual attire, limited seating. Face masks and social distancing required. Survived by daughter Lori-Ann Kudo of Kurtistown; son Steven (Carol) Kudo of Honolulu; brother Paul (Alice) Kudo of Pearl City, Oahu; a grandson, niece, nephew and numerous cousins. Kikue Tanaka, 112, of Hilo, died Dec. 15 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Yamaguchi-ken, Japan. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Sarah Leinaala Halemano, 83, of Volcano, died Nov. 25 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was a housekeeper with the Kalia Hotel and a U.S. Army veteran. Services to be held in May 2022 in Honolulu at a date to be announced. Survived by sons Karl (Stacy Okada) Halemano of Volcano and Kirk K. Dean Genshi Otani, 65, of Hilo died Dec. 5 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Hilo, he was formerly employed at Farmers Exchange, Sunida’s, Pacific Air, Hawaii Protective Association, was a school custodian and operated a pawn shop. Private services held.
