Lili‘uokalani Gardens will become even more enchanting this holiday season.

The public is invited to walk the park to see light displays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. beginning Thursday, Dec. 23, until Saturday, Dec. 25.

Friends of Lili‘uokalani Gardens is hosting the fifth-annual celebration with help from sponsors, which include the Hilo Lions Club, Na Hoku Huihui, HFS Federal Credit Union, Liko Lehua Cafe, Urasenke Tea Society of Hilo, Pacific Pro-Tech Services, KWXX and Backyard Monkey.

On Monday, Backyard Monkey volunteered time to hang Christmas lights from the large monkey pod tree in the park.

There will be at least seven light displays around the park for viewers to explore and see.

Friends of Lili‘uokalani Gardens also is asking for volunteers for each night to distribute programs, answer questions and to help people navigate the park.

Those interested in volunteering can call K.T. Cannon-Eger at (808) 895-8130 or can visit the Friends of Lili‘uokalani Gardens canopy during the event.

Before the event at Lili‘uokalani Gardens, Friends of Kalakaua Park and the Hilo Community Players will be hosting an evening of holiday caroling from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23 in Kalakaua Park.

Santa Claus will be in attendance, and the Christmas tree in the park will be lit.

Goodies will be available, and all donations made at this event will benefit Friends of Kalakaua Park, a local coalition of nonprofits that helps to restore and maintain the beauty of the park in downtown Hilo.

Face masks and social distancing will be required.
