The Hawaii Tribune-Herald’s exclusive, premium content no longer will be entirely free starting next month.

As the overwhelming majority of newspapers across the nation already have done, the Hawaii Tribune-Herald is making this move in order to help sustain the operation of the Big Island’s largest and most trusted daily source for local news, sports and features.

“Locally sourced journalism is critical to the Big Island community and is a cornerstone of democracy,” said David Bock, publisher and editor of the Hawaii Tribune-Herald. “We ask all of those who have used and enjoyed our free digital content to join our print readers in supporting East Hawaii’s only daily newspaper by subscribing to either our print or digital editions.”

Starting Tuesday, Dec. 7, visitors to HawaiiTribune-Herald.com will be able to register and access 10 stories in a 30-day period free of charge. Readers who want to access the site’s content 10 or more times over 30 days will need to subscribe to the newspaper.

Access to exclusive special sections, such as Celebrate Hula and The Best of East Hawaii, classified ads and coverage of major breaking news will be free to readers and will not count toward the 10-story limit.

Our valued print subscribers, who already can read the Hawaii Tribune-Herald’s print replica eEdition online, will receive unlimited digital access at no additional charge, accessible 24/7 from anywhere on any device.

Print subscribers who have not yet created an online account can do so today by visiting https://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/digital-activation/ or by calling (808) 935-6624.

Those who sign up for a free account before Dec. 7 will receive bonus access to 30 premium stories during the month of December.
