UPDATE 1:24 p.m. 11-22-2021: According to police, the man who fell from the cliff was listed in critical condition.

A 30-year-old man was injured when a portion of cliff he was fishing off collapsed early this morning, according to the Hawaii Fire Department.

Seven units and 12 personnel were dispatched at 3:01 a.m. today to the cliffs at the end of Paradise Drive in Hawaiian Paradise Park. The first unit reportedly arrived on scene at 3:12 a.m.

The fisherman had fallen about 30 feet down the cliff. Fire personnel rescued the man and transported him to Hilo Medical Center where “a full trauma team awaited,” a statement said.

The man wasn’t identified and no information was provided on his condition. The Tribune-Herald was unable to reach the duty battalion chief.
