The Big Island Substance Abuse Council hosted its first Trunk or Treat event to bring awareness on the dangers of vaping. The event had nineteen partnering agencies, and an estimated 852 individuals and 285 cars attended. The event was able to hand out 10,000 treat bags and an additional 250 pounds of candies.
“Our event’s purpose was to bring awareness to our keiki about the dangers of vaping with family-fun activities. Mahalo to all of our partnering agencies who really got into the spirit of Halloween. We had Mad Scientists, Star Wars, and Candyland just to name a few” said BISAC’s CEO, Dr. Hannah Preston-Pita.
Due to the success of the event, BISAC plans on making this an annual event. “We are happy that we could bring some joy to our community during these tough times.” Since 1964, BISAC has been inspiring individuals and families to reclaim and enrich their lives in the wake of the ravages of substance abuse and mental health. They offer a continuum of services that are culturally appropriate and aligned with the ever-changing behavioral health field.
