Nathan Denis Astrande, 44, of Keaau died Oct. 13 at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Hilo and raised in Keaau, he was a driver for Hawaii Food Alliance. Services at a later date. Survived by daughters, Shanaya Astrande-Pacheco (Mitchell Souza) and Shaiann Astrande of Keaau; mother of daughters, Shaydee Pacheco of Pepeekeo, mother, Pauline Astrande of Keaau, father, Warlito Astrande of Keaau; partner, Hokulani Wela of Keaau; a granddaughter, a nephew, an uncle, aunts and cousins.

Mikio Izu, 97, of Captain Cook died Oct. 30 at home. Born in Honaunau, he was a retired carpenter, self-employed coffee farmer and member of Hawaii Carpenter’s Union Local 745, Yamaguchi Ken Club and Kona Koyasan Daishiji Mission. Services at a later date. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by son, Leighton (Ye Chen) Izu of Davis, Calif.; daughters, Colleen Tajiri of Alameda, Calif., Yvonne Izu, Janine (Gerard) Patary, Nichol Izu of Ewa Beach, Oahu; sisters, Betty (Kenneth) Ebata of Honolulu and Loretta Kitaoka of Captain Cook; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Matthew Leialoha Kaukini, 68, of Hilo died Oct. 6 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired state Highways Division truck driver and Hilo High School graduate. Takako “Ginger” Tomita Randall, 95, of Hilo, died Oct. 22 at her family’s Waimea home. Born in Tottori, Japan, she was a retired sales clerk for Hilo Hattie’s in Hilo, a member of the Hilo, Kona and Waikoloa congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and a certified ikebana and ikenobo instructor.
