How Sui “Lily” Lam, 74, of Kealakekua, died Oct. 5 at her family’s home in Kailua-Kona. Born in Guangdong, China, she was the former owner of Hong Kong Chop Suey in Captain Cook and a member of the Hawaii County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. Celebration of life to be held Saturday (Oct. 30) 12:30 p.m. at Big Island Grill. Casual attire. Survived by husband Yim Sin Lam of Kealakekua; sons Michael (Carol) Lam of Kailua-Kona and Alan (Wenting) Lam of Kailua-Kona; sisters Kam Shui Kow of Hilo, Stella Yuen of Kailua-Kona, Irene Chan of Kailua-Kona, Kam (Jeffrey) Kahakua of Kailua-Kona, Sandy (Bryan) Caldwell of Kailua-Kona, Kammie (Jody) Char of Kailua-Kona, Kam Oi (Chris) Wigen of Kailua-Kona; brother Hon Ming (Lani) Wong of Kailua-Kona and numerous nieces and nephews. William Tehero, 85, of Hilo, died Oct. 17 at Saito Care Home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired coordinator for Global Associates, a retired newspaper carrier for the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Graveside service and military honors to be held Tuesday (Nov. 2) at the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery #2 in Hilo at 12 p.m. Face masks and social distancing required. Survived by sons Firmin (Junie) Tehero of Pepeekeo and William (Mindy) Tehero, Jr. of Keaau; daughters Terilynn (Terry) Nielson of Hilo and Sheri Rose Pacheco of Hilo; brothers Jose Tehero of Kauai, Patrick (Faye) Umalla of Honolulu and Daniel (Frances) Mendez of Oahu and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins. Toshiko G. Uchima, 96, of Laupahoehoe, died Aug. 30. Born in Ninole, she was a clerk at the former Hamakua Sugar Co. and a member of the Papaaloa Hongwanji. Visitation to be held Friday (Oct. 29) 9-10 a.m. at Ballard Mortuary in Hilo, with private services to follow at 10 a.m. Face mask and social distancing required. Survived by son Eugene Y. Uchima of Hilo; brother Masanobu (Yoshiko) Gusukuma of Kailua, Oahu, and Yasu Sugiyama of Hilo; sister-in-law Yoshiko Gusukuma of Pepeekeo, two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Eileen Naula Hausmann, 79, of Ocean View, died Sept. 27 at home. Born in New York, she was owner and operator of Mail Services in Florida. Private services to be held. Survived by daughter Lisa (Michael) Barsell of Ocean View; stepdaughters Laura (Jimmy) Brannigan of N.Y. and Linda (Paul) Travia of N.Y., seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, four nieces and one nephew. Brandon Hokulani Grace, 40, died at home on Sept. 19. Born in Hilo, he worked at the Department of Water Supply’s Kona base yard. Memorial to be held at a later date. Sandra Wood Scarr, 85, of Holualoa, died Oct. 8 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Washington, D.C., she was a psychology professor at the University of Virginia, Yale University, the University of Minnesota and the University of Pennsylvania, and bred dogs in Kona. Survived by daughters Karen Scarr of San Francisco, Rebecca Scarr of Whitefish Bay, Wis., and Stephanie Jackson of Cornelius, N.C.; and son Phillip Scarr of Madison, Wis. Wendy Wilson Ahu, 63, of Hilo, died Oct. 13 in Mililani, Oahu. Born in San Rafael, Calif., she owned Hilo Bay Facial and Spa and worked as a licensed esthetician. Services to be announced at a later date. Survived by daughters Kekelaokalani (Philip) White and Ka‘alalani Wilson (Kim Makuakane-Jarrell) Ahu; former husband Gary K. Ahu, Sr.; brothers Ross (Debbie) Wilson and Ray (Renee) Wilson; sister Wilnette (Dan) Miyashiro; ten grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Henri “Chico” Freitas, 62, of Hilo, died Sept. 12 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Kealakekua, she was the proprietor of Henri Freitas Tax and Business Service LLC in Hilo. A drive-by memorial service will be held Saturday (Oct. 30) 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at 118 E. Palai Street in Hilo, with further services to follow Saturday (Nov. 13) 10 a.m. at Hope DIA-mend Ministries in Ocean View. Survived by son Robert Allen Freitas of Honolulu; daughter Jennifer Mahealani Pattioay of Hilo; brothers Henry (Dawna) Waiwaiole, Jr. of Naalehu, Luther (Lei) Waiwaiole of Kawaihae; sisters Eleanor Leilani Waiwaiole and Rebecca Waiwaiole of Honolulu, Sylvia Gnar of S.C. and Wendy (Jeffery) Fernandez of Kapaau; and numerous nieces and nephews.
