Edward Lincoln “Pancho” Aiona, 69, of Mountain View died Sept. 22 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was retired from Jas W. Glover, Ltd. Visitation Saturday (Oct. 30) 3-5 p.m. at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, with memorial service to follow at 5 p.m. Casual attire and limited seating; face masks and social distancing required. No flowers. Survived by wife Anna Aiona of Mountain View; son Andre (Janette) Aiona of Pahoa; daughter Rebecca Aiona of Mountain View; sisters Idalyn Ison of Louisville, Ky., and Ella (Orlando) Manuel of Keaau; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Elizabeth “Beth” Balaoro Baruela, 74, of Hilo died Sept. 7 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Tagaytay, Abra, Philippines, she delivered newspapers for the Hawaii Tribune-Herald and was a field worker for the former Hamakua Sugar Co. between 1968 and 1993. Private services held. Survived by sister Pearlita (Ray) Line of Hilo; half-brother Romy Blaza of Vigan, Ilocos Sur province, Philippines; sisters-in-law Francisca Baruela of Quezon City, Philippines; Roselily Blaza of San Juan, Philippines; Carmelita Quizon Baruela of Pahala and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Damien Glen Carreira, 43, of Hilo died Oct. 5 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Hilo, he was the owner and operator of KKC Wood Designs and Basic Booms Sound Systems. Craig Naoto Hara, 77, of Kurtistown died Sept. 1 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a state meat inspector, a Vietnam War veteran and a member of Kurtistown Jodo Mission. Hugo von Platen Luder, Jr., 86, of Kailua-Kona died Oct. 9 at home. Born in Hilo, he was the founder of Huggo’s Restaurant. Celebration of life to be held at a later date. Rudolfo “Rudy” Rios, 75, of Pahoa died Sept. 29 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hawaii, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for the former Hilo Coast Processing Company and a U.S. Army veteran.
