Ban drive-thrus

Hawaii County is all in on doing something about climate change, so why not do something more than just talking about it? Ban drive-thru services at all the fast food businesses.

Half of carbon emissions for Hawaii Island comes from transportation. We can prevent some of those emissions by banning all drive-thru services.

This would cause people to park their cars and actually walk instead of letting their vehicle idle while spewing out poisonous gases as they wait to feed their face. Another benefit would be to free up the roadway from cars holding up traffic while they wait for a spot in the drive-thru line.

Sure, it would be inconvenient, but you need to do your part to save the Earth. Talk won’t cover it anymore. We need to act and make Greta Thunberg, renowned climate activist, proud of Hawaii.

This is a win-win. People are still going to eat. If you can’t walk, they’ll bring your food out to you. You’ll save on gas as the prices go up and up, you can get a vaccine shot or test while you wait, you can legally use you cellphone. Everyone wins.

Do your part, Hawaii. Stop the drive-thru from killing the Earth.

‘Don’t be a hypocrite’

For all of those demonstrators on Saturday (Sept. 18) who rallied against so-called government intrusion into their lives where COVID-19 mandates were concerned and the rights of businesses and government to make rules surrounding access, let’s remind these people that when they get sick from COVID-19 that they need not go to the ER for treatment.

The rationale? If you don’t believe that the government or businesses have a right to tell you to wear a mask or get a shot, then you don’t need medical treatment, should you contract the virus!

Why should hospitals and doctors waste their valuable time, energy and resources on people who couldn’t care less about following the rules put forward to keep themselves and those around them safe from harm? The mask and vaccine mandates are for the betterment of society — not just for you or me!

Let’s stop wasting money on people who don’t care about others. Let’s worry about those who’ve actually taken the time to go out and gotten the vaccine or who’ve not been able to because of some underlying condition that prevents them, but still needs help anyhow.

Let’s concentrate on those who have taken heed of the government’s warnings and have done exactly what they could to make themselves and their families safe from harm by getting the vaccine when it was offered, instead of railing against this ridiculous so-called tyranny of the government that seeks to deny them their rights.

Just stay home and die. Stop clogging up the hospitals!

You have every right to go anywhere you want, and businesses have the right to deny you access to their private property because they can dictate who is/isn’t allowed to enter! If you don’t like government mandates, then you have every right to leave this state for another — or leave this country for another.

Better yet, just get vaccinated! Either way, if you get COVID, you have no one to blame but yourself. Just don’t be a hypocrite and go to the ER when you get sick then! Stand by your principles and die on the side of the road waving your stupid sign proclaiming your right to body freedom.

Save the resources for those who care about society at large!
