John Paul “JP” Maple, 80, of Volcano died Sept. 7 in Albuquerque, N.M. He was the owner of Rainbow Builders and will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, generosity, and devotion to his family. Lucy Ahea Aiona Siu, 96, of Hilo died Aug. 13 at home. Born in Ho‘opuloa, South Kona, she was the last survivor of the original Ho‘‘opuloa village near Milolii, which was destroyed by a 1926 lava flow, was a preschool teacher, volunteered at Kaiser Hospital and County of Hawaii RSVP, and member of Alu Like Kupuna Program, Hilo Methodist Church, Hilo Missionary Church, and teacher of Hawaiian language and ukulele. She and her late husband, James B. Siu Sr., owned the former Ka‘u Fish Market and Wailoa Fish Market. Private burial service held. Memorial service at a later date.
