Joseph Jose Abril Sr., 89, of Hilo, formerly of Wailuku, Maui, died Sept. 12 at a private care home. He was a retired general foreman for Honolulu Shipyard, golfer and former member of Sandalwood Golf Course and Pukalani Country Club on Maui. Private services. Celebration of life and scattering of ashes will be held at a later date. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by daughters, Rose Marie Abril of San Francisco and Beverly (Curtis) Beck of Hilo; sons, Thomas Abril of Mililani, Oahu, Mark (Carole) Abril of Hilo, Victor Abril of Honolulu, Joseph Abril Jr. of Daly City, Calif., Wesley (Grace) Abril of Simi Valley, Calif., and Michael (Nanette) Abril of Tracy, Calif.; sisters, Marcy Akao of Hilo, Marie Abril and Vicky Yanagawa of Kona, Dora Scarr and Mary Bentley of Las Vegas, Monica Layman of Honolulu, Candida Abril and Pauline Butters of Kona; brothers, Alfonso Abril of Honolulu and John Abril of Kona; also Marlo Cloutier of Pleasanton, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Daisy Fumie Kugisaki, 97, of Honolulu died Sept. 2 in Honolulu. Born in Kapoho, she was retired from the former Miko Meats. Private services. Survived by daughter, Joanne Bruntz; son, Craig (Martha Wacker) Fujisaki; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Hosoi Garden Mortuary.

Dolores Bernice Isabel Perreira Tavares, 93, of Hilo died Sept. 11 at home. Born in Pahoa, she was a secretary at Pepeekeo School, retired from Kalaniana‘ole Elementary and Intermediate School and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Young Ladies Institute, Portuguese Cultural Club, St. Joseph Catholic Church Aloha Choir and the Pokeno Club. Visitation 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Wake service at 6 p.m. Mass at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou. Graveside committal service to follow at Homelani Memorial Park. Limited seating. Casual attire; face masks and social distancing required. Survived by sons, Michael Tavares Sr. of Hilo, Robert (Verna) Tavares Sr. of Captain Cook and Earl Tavares of Kailua-Kona; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson; nieces and nephews. Calvin “Cal” Tanouye, 74, of Hilo died July 27 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was the owner of Cal’s 76 Service Station. Services at a later date. Survived by partner, Charlotte Hamada; children, Gavin Tanouye, Anne (Sam Hauanio) Tanouye and Ian (Crystal Robledo) Tanouye; sisters, Marie (James) Fernandez and Sandi (Eric) Moore; hanai children, Calvin “Boy” Hamada, Jelden Hamada, Kelinn Hamada and Blaiselin Hamada; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
