A collision late Friday morning on Highway 11 in Puna between three trucks — an empty 3,000 gallon propane tanker, full-size pickup truck and box truck, sent four patients to Hilo Medical Center, according to the Hawaii Fire Department.

Eight units responded to the 11:04 alarm of the collision near the 16-mile marker of Volcano Highway, including a HAZMAT unit, which confirmed there was no active leaking from the tanker.

Both lanes of the highway were closed temporarily as the accident was investigated and debris was cleared from the roadway.

There was no report on the condition of the patients transported to the hospital.
