No vax passports
I am writing to you as a concerned citizen, law-abiding human being, and longtime taxpayer in the County of Hawaii.
Six thousand people wrote in opposing the vaccine passport, and 250 gave live oral testimonies. The people have spoken, and the government is ignoring us.
Please remember that the government is not above the people or above God, who promised us free will!
My father, brother, uncles, grandfather, great grandfathers and several friends were soldiers who fought for the United States of America and laid their lives on the line for our freedom. May the energy they gave not be in vain.
I am asking you to uphold your oath to the Constitution by honoring free speech and showing we still have rights by posting this letter in your newspaper.
Whether you got the vaccine(s) or not is none of my business. And it’s none of anyone else’s business who got it. We deserve to have choice of what we put into our bodies.
Vaccine passports are discrimination! This country was built on freedom, and we the people still have rights.

Send the Navy
On Aug. 18, I wrote to Gov. David Ige, suggesting that he ask President Biden to deploy the Navy hospital ships Mercy or Comfort to Hawaii to support our hospitals, doctors, nurses, support staff and other EMS personnel.
Former President Trump did this during his term, sending the Mercy to the West Coast and the Comfort to the East Coast.
As of this writing, I haven’t heard of any news whether this suggestion is being seriously considered.
I have written to my County Council representative and our state senator and state representative for their assistance in urging our governor consider this suggestion.

Get ’em done
As I drove from the wharf in Keaukaha to Banyan Drive, I thought to myself: There are three major projects in Hawaii that needs all of our attention — getting rid of COVID-19, completing the rail system on Oahu, and finishing the road work on Kalanianaole Avenue in Hilo.
All three projects have been very costly and annoying.
In my opinion, COVID-19 has been extremely taxing on the county and the state.
The rail system and Kalanianaole have been troubling and questionable because of the length of time and cost toward completion.
Not to be facetious, I wondered which project will be completed first. Hopefully, we can complete all three projects within the near future so we can have a safe and enjoyable Hawaii.

Idea for protesters
Glad to read that my state Rep. Jeanne Kapela, along with two other representatives, want the state to overlook the illegal actions of a few protesters on the Maunakea Access Road.
Maybe they think that to protest on public lands is acceptable if you are Native Hawaiians. But arrest and charge all others.
I have a wonderful idea for the protesters. If you don’t want a scientific instrument which will impact everyone’s life for the better, then you should also demonstrate against all those cellphone towers placed all around the island.
And how about giving up your automobiles? They use nasty gasoline, for the most part.
Perhaps you should pray to a mysterious god to eliminate the telescope. After all, they do have wonderful (unknown) powers.
If I decided to go to the mountain and protest, just as they do, I doubt I’d be treated the same.
Funny that they are cleaning up the mess that was made by their cohorts.
