DOH: 865 new COVID-19 cases statewide, 131 on Big Island

Another 865 new confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases were reported today by the state Department of Health.

Of those, 131 were on the Big Island. There have been 7,998 cases reported on Hawaii Island since the start of the pandemic.

Hawaii County now has an 8.2% test positivity rate, compared to a 7.5% positivity rate statewide.

Seven COVID-related deaths also were reported today.

A Big Island woman, age 60-69; a Maui man, age 50-59; two Oahu men, age 30-49; and two Oahu women over 60 had been hospitalized and had underlying health conditions.

An Oahu man, 50-59, died at home. It is unknown if he had other underlying conditions.

Twenty-four deaths have been reported in the past three days.

Testing is available 1-5 p.m. today at Kona Community Aquatic Center in Kailua-Kona.
