Mabel Correia Gomes, 99, of Paauilo died Aug. 15 at Hale Hoola Hamakua in Honokaa. Born in Ahualoa, she was a homemaker and member of Honokaa Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Visitation 8-9:45 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 4) at Honokaa Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Eulogy at 9:45 a.m. Mass at 10 a.m. Graveside committal services to follow at the Honokaa Catholic Cemetery. Jessica Gladys Gonsalves, 66, of Keaau died Aug. 8 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired custodian for Keaau High School, a housekeeper for the former Hilo Lagoon Hotel, custodian for Waiakeawaena Elementary School, and member of New Hope-Puna and New Hope-Hilo Hula Ministry. Celebration of life 11 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 4) at New Hope-Puna. Masks and social distancing required. Casual attire. Raymond Samuel Johnson, 89, of Hilo died Aug. 15 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in New York City, he was an actor who appeared in “Dirty Harry” as a character hired to beat up the Scorpio Killer and an antagonist to Sun Ra in the jazz cult classic, “Space Is The Place.” His poem, “Walking East on 125th Street,” is included in “Black Fire,” a pivotal literary collection of the Black Arts Movement of the 1960s. Roland Lorenzo Lucero, 81, of Hilo died Aug. 17 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kahuku, Oahu, he was a retired certified journeyman welder for the former Hilo Coast Processing Co., worked for Mauna Kea Agribusiness, Pioneer Mill on Maui and was a member of the ILWU, Fil-Am and Hawaiian bowling clubs and Waiakea Congregation Jehovah’s Witnesses in Hilo. Lois Kilohana “Aunty Lois” Sanekane, 62, of Pahoa died July 30 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was a teacher at Pahoa High and Intermediate School, instructor for the Na Pua No‘eau summer program, graduate of Roosevelt High School, and had bachelor degrees from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in psychology and the University of Hawaii at Hilo in education/science.
