The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory has lowered its alert level for Kilauea as seismic activity around the volcano decreases.
On Tuesday, HVO raised the volcano alert level for Kilauea from “Advisory” to “Watch” after a series of minor earthquakes was detected around the Kilauea caldera. Now, HVO has returned its alert level for the volcano back to “Advisory” as those earthquakes have diminished.
According to an HVO statement this morning, earthquake activity and ground deformation levels have decreased over the past 24 hours, indicating that the immediate potential for a volcanic eruption has lessened.
As of this morning, only six earthquakes have been detected in the vicinity of Kilauea caldera in the past day, a far cry from Tuesday, when as many as 10 earthquakes per hour were recorded.
HVO will continue to monitor the situation.
