The Hilo Public Library closed Wednesday after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.
The library will be undergoing a thorough cleaning and will reopen on Saturday, according to the Hawaii State Public Library System.
All public library staff are required to wear masks, practice social distancing and use proper hand sanitizing practices. High-touch areas are disinfected as recommended by state and federal guidance.
“Since reopening public services in May 2020, all of our public library employees have worked hard to protect themselves, their co-workers and their communities from exposure to this terrible virus,” said State Librarian Stacey Aldrich. “Nevertheless, this is an important reminder for all of us to remain vigilant by wearing masks, social distancing and following recommended safety protocols such as getting vaccinated, to protect our families, our co-workers and our community.”
While the Hilo Public Library is temporarily closed, library cardholders can access books, movies and other entertainment at librarieshawaii.org.
After reopening, the library will be open Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
