Born in San Jose, Calif., she was a retired housekeeper for the former Naniloa Surf Hotel, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Grandmother’s Club, which selected her as Mother of the Year in 2001 and Grandmother of the Year in 2002, and volunteer at Hilo Medical Center and the Salvation Army, among numerous organizations, receiving multiple awards for her services.
