Local artists Henry Bianchini and Shan Moy attached Ho‘omalule ‘Upena Kiloi, or Metamorphosis of a Net Fisherman, to a plinth in the art piece’s new spot near Liliuokalani Gardens in Hilo on Wednesday.
In June, Hawaii County Parks Director Maurice Messina said the statue would be moved a short distance away from its original, more central location, to a part of the park referred to as the “Isles,” which is north of Hilo Bay Café.
The statue’s previous location drew criticism from some users of the park.
The bronze statue was created by Bianchini and donated to the county in March.
“I just want to thank all the county workers who helped move and place the statue twice,” Bianchini said. “I want to acknowledge Maurice Messina with Parks and Rec for coordinating the great work.”
Bianchini noted that the new spot turned out to be a great location for his statue.
