Alejandro “Al” “Alex” Garaya Gabuat Jr., 64, of Hilo died June 28 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired worker for Hilton Waikoloa Village. Private services at a later date. Survived by brothers, Vladimar (Cassandra) Gabuat of Hilo, Norbert Gabuat of Waipahu, Oahu, Ronald (Dawn) Daquip of Honolulu, Robert (Lisa) Daquip of Ewa Beach, Oahu, Nelson Gacusan of Hilo, Froilan (Leimomi) Gacusan of Kauai, Danilo Alviento and Davin Alviento of Puna; sisters, Brenda (Vernon Sr.) Basque of Puna, Pricilla Gacusan of Hilo and Denise Alviento of Kona; nieces and nephews. Frank Locke, 67, of Mountain View, died July 28 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Oregon, he was a retired carpenter. Celebration of life noon Sunday (Aug. 8) at Richardson Ocean Park in Keaukaha. Catherine Matsuda, 85, of Hilo died July 24 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Born in Hakalau, she was retired from the former KK Place, had worked for the former KK Tei, Roy’s Gourmet and other restaurants and was a member of Kilauea Hawaii Pidgin Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Public visitation 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Private funeral service and burial to follow. Casual attire; face masks and social distancing required. Gloria Quisisem Palacol 81, of Papaikou died May 16, 2020 , in Justin, Texas. Born in the Philippines, she was a retired adult care home operator, life insurance agent with the Prudential and member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Papaikou. Her ashes are coming home to her final resting place to be with her husband Virgilio Palacol in Alae Cemetery.
