Firefighters battling brush fire in Ka‘u

A brush fire was reported on Ninole Loop near Punaluʻu Beach at about 7 a.m. today.

According to a county statement, Hawaii Fire Department units were dispatched, including volunteers, to contain the fire. The fire is approximately five acres in size and has been 80% contained. No structures are threatened.

Firefighting efforts continue to ensure there are no flare-ups or escapes from the containment lines.

Motorists in the area are requested to drive with caution.
