Born in Kalihi, Hawaii, he was a construction worker for Goodfellow Brothers and Isemoto Contracting, lifeguard, marathon runner, black belt martial artist, a sensei of Kara-Ho Kempo, prize-winning pigeon racer, Hawaiian advocate, Hawaiian music performer, a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran and member of Disabled American Veterans.
