Cameras in class
Our public classrooms need to have cameras.
We need to know what is happening in our children’s classrooms.
We need to know what is being taught to our children.
Those are public schools and public classrooms. They are not private environments.
The public pays for the schools and the salaries of the teachers, and so much more, which operate our public schools.
Public school teachers work for us, and we have the right to know exactly what our employees are teaching our children.

Deeds not words
I read another hate-filled letter to the editor (on July 4) from someone espousing to be a patriot who has never served in any official capacity for the United States.
There are so many veterans here who have sacrificed so much. They wave flags in front of their homes and on their vehicles. They are not afraid to show that they love their country.
A confused mind thinks showing visual love for your country means that you are not a patriot, you are just a grandstander.
And I’m proud to have served the country, and I still do. And I do so by physical deeds. Not with lip service. I am painting my 10th free mural on Keawe Street downtown Hilo.
Perhaps Mr. Dennis Chaquette (Your Views, July 4), who is so vehemently opposed to conservative Republicans and people who actually serve(d) can make it on by to watch me paint.
It would be a good reminder to him that actual physical work and not just lip service are what make the world go around.
