The Max and Yetta Karasik Family Foundation, through the Hilo Medical Center Foundation, donated 20 new automated external defibrillators to the Hawaii Police Department. The AEDs will be distributed to officers islandwide, police said.

“Hawaii Police Department appreciates the generous donation of AEDs as it will provide valuable tools for our officers as they continue to assist our community,” said Hawaii Police Department Chief Paul Ferreira.

It is the second donation of AEDs to Big Island police from the Karasik Family Foundation.

The donation included 20 AEDs, training pads, cases and a four-year maintenance plan, with a combined total value of $34,994.96.

The department received approval from the County Council to accept the donation prior to a ceremony held June 15 in Hilo.
