Autopsies have conducted on a 34-year-old Hilo man shot by police during a Sunday evening gun battle and his 91-year-old grandfather, who collapsed during the gunfire and died, police said.

Ryan Yukiharu Santos died from a single gunshot wound to the left shoulder area, the pathologist determined, although the final autopsy report is pending toxicology results.

Santos’ grandfather died from an acute heart attack which he suffered during the course of this incident.

Police say the investigation into the incident continues. The officer who fired shots and three others who responded have all been placed on administrative leave until the investigation is complete.
