During the week of June 7-13, Hawaii Island police arrested 13 motorists for DUI.

Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident.

One was younger than 21.

The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, seven; South Hilo, three; Puna, two; and North Kohala, one.

So far this year, there have been 543 DUI arrests compared to 384 during the same period last year, an increase of 41.4%.

There have been 352 major accidents so far this year compared to 367 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.1%.

To date, there have been 12 official traffic fatalities, compared to 10 fatalities at this time last year, an increase of 20%.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
