Police charged a 47-year-old Pahoa man with felony abuse and firearm charges stemming from a domestic incident earlier this week in lower Puna.

At about 2 p.m. Wednesday, a 29-year-old woman told officers at the Pahoa police station that her boyfriend, Raymond Robello Dias IV, punched and strangled her at his Nanawale Estates home.

According to police, the woman said Dias took her phone when she tried to call 911 and prevented her from leaving the residence for several hours. While speaking with officers, the woman also reported that Dias threatened to kill her and said Dias, a felon, had firearms in the house.

Officers arrested Dias, served a search warrant at the home and found two firearms and ammunition, police said.

Dias was charged Friday with kidnapping, terroristic threatening, domestic abuse, domestic abuse aggravated by strangulation, interfering with the report of an emergency or crime and three counts of prohibited possession of a firearm and/or ammunition.

His bail was set at $123,000 and his initial appearance is scheduled for Monday in Hilo District Court.
