The cause of a Friday morning fire that caused significant damage to a home in Hawaiian Paradise Park is under investigation, according to a written statement from the Hawaii Fire Department.

Eleven units responded to the 11:18 a.m. alarm of the fire on 16th Avenue, with the first unit arriving on scene seven minutes later.

Arriving firefighters found the rear portion of the 1,200-square-foot, single-story, post-and-pier wooden house engulfed in flames with smoke exiting the windows.

There were no fire hydrants in the immediate area, and firefighters extinguished the blaze using attack lines and water shuttle operations.

No one was at home when the fire broke out, but the residents returned while firefighters were there, the statement said.

The fire was reported under control at 11:35 a.m. and extinguished at 11:47 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

The estimated loss was $69,000, while the quick action resulted in an estimated $103,000 in property value saved.
