John “Skip” Given Liwai, 86, of Waikoloa died March 12 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Koolauloa, Oahu, he was a retired manager for Waikoloa Village Golf Club, member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Waikoloa Ward, U.S. Marine Corps Korean War veteran and former Military Sea Transportation System merchant seaman. Celebration of life 9-11 a.m. Friday, April 16, at the family home. Inurnment immediately to follow at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Condolences to: Ruth Liwai, P.O. Box 383142, Waikoloa, HI 96738. Lester Keala Lorenz, 44, of Honaunau died Dec. 3, 2020, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kealakekua, he was a drywaller and framer and member of Carpenters Union Local 745. Services at a later date. Ichiro Nishiura, 93, of Hilo died March 18 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kapoho, he was retired from Isemoto Contracting Co., a U.S. Army Korean War veteran and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin and Masons Union of Hawaii-BAC Local 1. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by wife, Matsue Nishiura of Hilo; daughter, Gail (Glenn) Okada of Hilo; sons, Lance (Elaine) Nishiura, Kelvin (Donna) Nishiura and Clayton (Nancy Kunishige) Nishiura of Hilo; brothers, Norman Nishiura of Honolulu and Hideo (Betty) Nishiura of Hilo; sisters, Mildred Nakanishi of Hilo, Takako Desaki of Honolulu and Sadako Aburamen of Hilo; sister-in-law, Gladys Nishiura of Hilo; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Larry Dean Snook, 75 of Hilo, formerly of Marysville, Calif., died March 23 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in California, he was a member of the Sprinklerfitters Union, U.S. Navy veteran who served on submarines and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and the Loyal Order of Moose. Survived by daughters, Michelle Bond of Oroville, Calif., Sharon Keoppel of Shingle Springs, Calif., and Tess Snook O’Riva of Rodeo, Calif.; eight grandchildren. The late Teri-Lee Lidstone-Whitney was survived by, among others, children, Daysha (Tyler) Tablit, Alisha Whitney and Ryson Whitney, all of Hawaii. Their names weren’t submitted for an obituary published Tuesday.
