Gov. David Ige has ordered all U.S. and Hawaii state flags to fly at half-staff today at all state offices and agencies, including the Hawaii National Guard, in respect for former state Rep. William Bains-Jordan, who died at his home in Alabama at 104.

The Hilo-born Bains-Jordan, who was the first state representative from Aiea, Oahu, served as a GOP member of the House from 1959-62. During his tenure, he chaired a committee to design the state capitol.

Bains-Jordan was a retired Bank of Hawaii vice president.

He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Honolulu and attended Cannon School of Business and the University of Hawaii.
