Michiyo Fukumitsu, 92, of Keopu died Feb. 21 at Captain Cook Care Home. Born in Hilo, she was a retired registered nurse and member of Keopu Kumiai. Services at a later date. Survived by sons, Ray Fukumitsu of Keopu, Gregory Fukumitsu of Honolulu, Eric (Kathy) Fukumitsu of Manteca, Calif. and Ross Fukumitsu of Keopu; sisters, Matsue Desaki of Honolulu and Ichiko (Sadao) Okada of Hilo; nieces and nephews. Esther Louise Lopez, 90, of Kailua-Kona died Feb. 22 at Nakamaru Hale. Born in Oxnard, Calif., she was a retired federal civil service employee at Fort Ord, Calif., member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Hospice of Kona volunteer and translation, legal, medical support services volunteer to the local Hispanic community. Visitation 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 15, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Mass at 10 a.m. Face masks and social distancing required. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Hospice of Kona, P.O. Box 4130, Kailua-Kona, HI 96745. Survived by sons, Stephen (Merry) Lopez of Kailua-Kona and Charles (Barbara) Lopez of Lincoln, Calif.; daughter, Rebecca (James) King of Auburn, Calif.; adopted son, Charles (Kathy) Lopez of Yucaipa, Calif.; sisters Trina Guiterrez of Spreckels, Calif., Anita Weimer of Salinas, Calif. and Amelia “Amy” Tognazzini of Capitola, Calif.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Lorina Cabral Springer, 93, of Hilo died Feb. 22 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, she was a retired switch board operator and receptionist for the former Royal Hawaiian Macadamia Nut Company, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hilo Women’s Club, YMI Ladies Auxiliary, and founding member of the St. Joseph Church Aloha Choir. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Tuesday (March 9) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Private prayer service and entombment at Homelani Memorial Park will follow. Casual attire. No flowers. Face masks and social distancing required. Survived by son, Michael (Kim) Springer of Hilo; daughters, Donna Mae Springer of Hilo, Patrice (David Fransen) Springer of Arkansas; 15 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Nicholas “Nicky” Vegas, 82, of Halaula died Feb. 15 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Kohala, he was a retired dishwasher at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Private services at a later date. Survived by brother, Raymond (Christine) Vega of Hawi; sister, Roseline Noble of Hawi; aunt, Janet Branco of Paauilo; nieces, nephews and cousins. Henry “Hank” Barnard Wesselman III, 79, of Captain Cook died Feb. 15 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in New York City, he was an author and a teacher. Private services held. Survived by wife, Jill Kuykendall of Captain Cook; daughters, Erica Wesselman of Captain Cook and Anna Wesselman of Brisbane, Australia; brother, Chris Wesselman of Arizona; hanai daughter, Thea Khama of Botswana.
