Police arrest 25 for DUI

During the week of Jan. 25-31, Hawaii Island police arrested 25 motorists for DUI. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents. None were younger than 21.

The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona and South Hilo, eight each; Puna, six; and South Kohala, three.

So far this year, there have been 110 DUI arrests compared to 97 during the same period last year, an increase of 13.4%.

There have been 57 major accidents so far this year compared to 85 during the same period last year, a decrease of 32.9%.

There have been three fatalities so far this year, the same as at this time last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
