A winter weather advisory is set to go into effect at 2 p.m. today for the Mauna Loa and Maunakea summits.
National Weather Service forecaster in Honolulu in an “urgent winter weather message” issued at 9:22 a.m. said a wintry mix of rain, snow and freezing rain is expected for the summits. Up to 2 inches of snow could fall.
The advisory is slated to go into effect at 2 p.m. today and remain posted until 6 p.m. Friday. The Maunakea Access Road was open as of 9:30 a.m.
Forecasters cautioned of hazardous road conditions due to the wintry mix.
“Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving,” forecasters wrote.
