Create a new holiday memory at the Christmas Festa from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday as you drive through the parking area left of the Tea House at Lili‘uokalani Gardens on Banyan Drive in Hilo. Greeting you at your car will be Hawaii Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce Cultural and Educational Center “elves” taking and filling your orders and delivering them to your cars.

Pick up Portuguese lunch boxes with freshly grilled Portuguese sausage hot dogs, pickled onions, malasadas, chips and bottled water. Also for sale will be sweetbread, pickled onions, Christmas Festa T-shirts and cups.

For those who registered for the center’s Virtual Malasada Shuffle 5K, participants are asked to also drive through and pick up their shirts, bags of malasadas and awards they may have won.

All proceeds will help support the building of the Hawaii Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce’s Cultural and Educational Center which continues to raise funds at this very challenging economic time. Donations will also be accepted and are tax deductible.

To preorder lunches and other goodies, contact Jean Alves at 808-938-9283. Visit hipcc.org/malasada for more information on the event and to make donations. Contributions can also be written and mailed to HIPCC CEC P.O. Box 1120 Hilo, HI 96721.

Our fondest mahalo nui loa goes out to the following sponsors for their help in providing this new holiday memory for our Big Island community: Andrade’s Honokaa Café, Big Island Toyota, De Luz Chevrolet, Gordon T. H. Ching, First Hawaiian Bank, Hapai Enterprises, KTA and anonymous Big Island elves.
