Shirley Acoba Agudo, 61, of Papaikou died Sept. 29 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a factory worker at Big Island Candies and member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Visitation from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at Dodo Mortuary chapel. Prayer service at 10:30 a.m. Burial at 12:30 p.m. Alae Cemetery (New Section). Face masks and social distancing required. Survived by husband, Loreto Agudo of Papaikou; son, Allan Jay of Papaikou; daughters, Lorielei Agudo and Everly Agudo of Honolulu; sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Arlene Dona Gillett, 91, of Pahoa died Oct. 30 in Daytona Beach, Fla. She was born in Burbank, Calif. No services. Survived by children, Charmaine (Niel O’Brien) Kamaka of Hilo, Celeste Sweetey of Maui, Christoper Cruz of Florida, Caroline Pohai (Calvin Higa) Montague-Mullins of Volcano, Candi (Antone Oliveira) Mullins of Hilo, Casey (Mary) Mullins of Washington and Cory Gillett of Honolulu; sisters, Lee Wallace and Betty Paris of California; brothers, Butch Youngquist of Arizona and Ted Youngquist of California; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mikio “Miki” Kato, 92, of Hawi, formerly of Pu‘uwa‘awa‘a, died Nov. 7 at home. Born in Kealakekua, he retired from the state of Hawaii Division of Forestry and Wildlife, was a paniolo with Pu‘uwa‘awa‘a Ranch and member of the Akitsu Gumi Association, Paniolo Preservation Society and Hiroshima Kenjinkai. Private services. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by spouse, Ellen Kato of Hawi; son, Glenn (Denise) of Puyallup, Wash.; daughter, Arlene (Simon) of San Francisco; brother, Shigeo (Yaeko) of Honolulu; sisters, Haruko Tagawa of Honolulu, Nobuko (George) Shimamoto of Kealakekua and Toshiko (Dave) Fusato of Cerritos, Calif.; nieces and nephews.
