Police arrest 12 for DUI

During the week of Oct. 26-Nov. 1, Hawaii Island police arrested 12 motorists for DUI. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents. None were younger than 21.

The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, seven; Puna, two; Hamakua, North Kohala and South Kohala, one each.

So far this year, there have been 820 DUI arrests compared to 918 during the same period last year, a decrease of 10.7%.

There have been 646 major accidents so far this year compared to 823 during the same period last year, a decrease of 21.5%.

To date, there have been 13 official traffic fatalities compared to 16 during the same time period last year, a decrease of 18.8%.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
