Jeffrey Layne Fernandez Sr., 66, of Kohala died Oct. 25 at home. Born in North Kohala, he was a farmer and member of Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survived by wife, Wendy K. Fernandez of Kohala; sons, Jeffrey Layne Fernandez Jr. and Peter (Sharmin Giron) Fernandez of Kohala; daughters, Raenette (Landry) Yangson of Anchorage, Alaska, and Fran (Shannon) Javillonar of Kawaihae; mother, Nora Lee Fernandez of Kohala; brothers, Robert (Emelia) Fernandez of Kohala and Harry (Visitacion) Fernandez of Waimea; hanai brother, Harold (Rose) Switzer of Oahu; sisters, Elizabeth Kagimoto and Lenora (Kyle) Oshita of Kohala, Rosalia (Darren) Steinhoff of Mililani, Oahu, and Lattie (Tony) Aumua of Anchorage, Alaska; brothers-in-law, Henry (Dawna) Waiwaiole of Naalehu and Luther (Lei) Waiwaiole of Waimea; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Ngar of Arkansas, Eleanor Waiwaiole and Rebecca Waiwaiole of Honolulu, Henri Freitas of Hilo; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Yoshiko Nakada Ishiki, 93, of Kukuihaele died Oct. 11 at home. Born in Waimea, she was a retired food service manager at Honokaa High and Elementary and the former Kukuihaele schools and member of Honokaa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple and Buddhist Women’s Association. Survived by daughters, Ann Marcia Ishiki and Colleen Ishiki of Honolulu; son, Brian (Diane) Ishiki of Waikoloa; sister, Yoneko (Frank) McNeil of Colorado; sisters-in-law, Kikue (Takeo) Toma of Honokaa, Doris (Ray) Zlomke of California and Shirley (Hisashi) Araki of Kaneohe, Oahu; a grandson; nieces and nephews. Michie Okajima, 91, of Hilo, died Oct. 20 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, she was a retired bookkeeper and member of the Wainaku Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Private services held.
