CORRECTION Oct. 27 2:03 p.m.: An earlier version of this story erroneously stated flights from Japan will resume to Hawaii on Nov. 6. Gov. Ige said flights from Japan will resume “as early as Nov. 6.” The Tribune-Herald regrets the error.

Gov. David Ige said today that tourists from Japan will once again visit the islands “as early as Nov. 6.”

In a media conference at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, Ige said travelers from Japan will be allowed in the state without a mandatory 14-day quarantine with a negative COVID-19 test administered within 72 hours of travel by a “trusted testing partner” in Japan.

Ige said COVID-19 testing in Japan for travel to Hawaii will begin on Nov. 3.

Japan discontinued commercial flights to Hawaii months ago because of the coronavirus pandemic.
