Pilar Domingo Carlos, 85, of Pahoa died Oct. 6 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she worked for Tropical Connections, dba Puna Flowers and Foliage, and was a member of New Hope Hilo. Visitation from 9-10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Burial at Homelani Memorial Park (Lehua Section) Face masks and social distancing required. Survived by spouse, Julio “Johnny” Carlos of Pahoa; son, Robert (Agnes) Carlos of Waimea; daughters, Rose (Alan) Takahata and Rebecca (Gilbert) Javier of Las Vegas, Remey (Charles) De Leon of San Jose, Calif., and Ronella (Gregory) Bidad of Pahoa; daughter-in-law, Zenaida Carlos of Waikoloa; sisters, Ludivina Domingo and Dionie Schimpke of the Philippines and Valeriana Balicoco of Honolulu; 13 grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty Tarn Chow-Hoy, 102, of Hilo died Sept. 7. Born in Hilo, she was an executive secretary for Bank of Hawaii, member of Hilo United Community Church and board member of the Chinese Cemetery. Seijun “Hana” Hanashiro, 100, of Honolulu died Oct. 3 at a private care home in Keaau. Born in Kohala, he worked for the Army Civil Service in Japan and Korea, was a free and accepted Mason and member of Torii Masonic Lodge No. 6, Scottish Rite, Shriners and Koboji Shingon Mission of Honolulu. Private services held. No koden (monetary gifts). Survived by wife, Noriko Hanashiro of Honolulu; son, Roy S. Hanashiro of Michigan; daughter, Junko (Don) Weeks of Pahoa; sister, Asano Teruya of Honolulu; sister-in-law, Nancy Sakuma of Waimea; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Joshua “Josh” Nunes Kanoelani Malloe, 40, of Kailua-Kona died Oct. 8 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, he was the founder and co-owner of Ohana Bottled Water LLC.
