Juergen Detlev Denecke, 78, of Keaau died Oct. 4 at home. Born in Germany, he was the retired manager of Na Leo o Hawaii television station. Private services held. Survived by extended family and friends. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Susumu “Sus” Nakagawa, 98, of Hilo died Sept. 22 at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Hilo, he was an entomologist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and former owner of the Seaside Restaurant and Aquafarm, member of the 442nd Veterans Club and Hilo Meishoin Buddhist Temple, was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal and served in the U.S. Army’s 100th Infantry Battalion of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. Service at later date. Survived by daughters, Cheryl (Wilbert Low) Nakagawa of Hilo and Linda (Mark) Laughlin of Portland, Ore.; sons, Colin (Sharon Beauchan) Nakagawa of Hilo and Kris (Janna) Nakagawa of Honolulu; sisters-in-law, Harumi Nakagawa of Hilo and Ella Fujie of Wailuku; nieces, nephews and cousins. Conrad Roland, 86, of Kailua-Kona died Sept. 25 at home. Born in Munich, Germany, he was an architect and member of the Holualoa Foundation for Arts and Culture, Kona Arts Center and American Institute of Architects. Services at later date. Survived by sister, Monika Aly of Berlin; brother, Klaus Lehmann of Germany; several nieces, four nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Arthur Earl Silva, 74, of Honokaa died Oct. 6 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Haina, he was a retired engineering department supervisor at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Services at later date. Survived by wife, Lydia C. Silva of Honokaa; sons, Joel (Sharon) Ragsac of Honokaa, Randy (Cheryl) Ragsac of the Philippines and Jose (Walailak Phangphuth) Ragsac of Waikoloa; daughters, Joanalee (Chris) Corpus of Hilo and Joan Ragsac of Honokaa; sisters, Elsie DeMattos of Paauilo and Inez (Gerald) Jackson of Georgetown, Calif.; eight grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
