Witnesses sought in stabbing

Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. Friday near downtown Hilo.

South Hilo Patrol officers were dispatched to the parking lot of a drug store on the corner of Kilauea Avenue and Pauahi Street following a report of a stabbing.

The 26-year-old male victim was bleeding from the chest area and appeared to have stab wounds, according to reports.

He was transported by ambulance to Hilo Medical Center’s Emergency Room for treatment. The victim remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Police determined the incident occurred in the area around the county buildings.
