The state Department of Health reports 52 new COVID-19 cases statewide, and have included another Oahu death in the official count, which now stands at 156.

There are now 12,854 cases reported in the state since the pandemic began.

Ten new cases were reported on Hawaii Island, bringing the official case count here at 820. Today’s total is considerably down from Saturday’s pandemic-high count of 43 new cases.

Hawaii County Civil Defense said in its morning message today, the high case count over the weekend “is of great concern and demonstrates the critical need of following the preventive polices of face coverings, distancing, and gatherings.”

“Much of this increase is due to clusters at the University of Nations in Kona and the Life Care Center in Hilo, the message stated. “The Department of Health and County of Hawaii are working with both to ensure that the virus is contained and to provide care for the individuals affected.”

Two deaths were reported at Life Care Center of Hilo over the weekend.

The City and County of Honolulu accounts for 41 of the newly reported cases, bringing its total to 11,546 cases.

Maui County has one new case, but two of its previously reported cases were removed from the count, making its official total 395 cases.

Kauai County has no new cases, and its case total remains at 59.

According to DOH, 34 cases are residents diagnosed outside the state.

So far, 889 cases have required hospitalization and 10,470 have been released from isolation as “recovered.”
