The Department of Health has reported 27 new COVID-19 cases on the Big Island today, a significant increase over the last few days.

While there were only three new Hawaii Island cases on Tuesday, today the islandwide total number of cases rose by 27 to 730. The statewide total also rose by 121 to 12,410, when yesterday there were only 87 cases statewide.

Kauai’s total remains at 59, having received no new cases, and Maui reported only one case today, bringing its total to 391.

Two more COVID deaths were reported today, with the death toll now at 136.

So far, 847 patients have required hospitalization.
