DOH reports 63 new COVID-19 cases; 55 on Oahu, 8 on Big Island

The state Department of Health reported 63 new COVID-19 cases today, with 55 on Oahu and eight on Hawaii Island.

That brings the total number of cases statewide to 11,522.

According to Hilo Medical Center, as of today there were 27 deaths on Hawaii Island, with one newly reported deaths associated with the cluster at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. That brings the veterans home death toll to 25, with the other two deaths unrelated to the cluster.

The new cases bring Hawaii County’s total since the pandemic began to 659.

The City and County of Honolulu have reported 10,393 cases, Maui County 385 and Kauai County 57, with 28 cases of Hawaii residents diagnosed outside the state.

The DOH’s death toll of 120 doesn’t include several from the veterans home due to their verification requirements.

According to DOH, 749 cases required hospitalization, while 4,992 individuals have been released from isolation as “recovered.”
