Civil Defense: 20 new Big Island COVID-19 cases, another death at veterans home

Hawaii County Civil Defense said this morning the state Department of Health reports 20 new COVID-19 cases on Hawaii Island and 22 hospitalized with coronavirus illness on the Big Island.

According to Civil Defense, Hilo Medical Center is reporting an additional death related to the COVID-19 outbreak at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. That makes a total of 16 deaths related to the veterans home case cluster and 17 Hawaii Island deaths, overall. for a total of seventeen (17). Sixteen of the deaths are from the Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home. Condolences from the Island’s Community go out to the families.

There is a drive-up coronavirus testing clinic between 9 a.m.-1 p.m. today at Kahuku Park upper parking lot in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates. There is also drive-up testing scheduled for 9 a.m.-noon Friday at Keauhou Shopping Center in Kona.

These tests are free to the public, but if you are insured, please bring your insurance card with you.
