The Big Island Press Club is hosting a live mayoral forum Oct. 1 in Hilo with Hawaii County mayoral candidates Ikaika Marzo and Mitch Roth.
Sherry Bracken, host of the New West Broadcasting (KWXX/B97-B93) program “Island Conversations,” will moderate the discussion. The live event begins at 4:30 p.m. and will run until 6 p.m. It also will air live on B97/B93 (97.1 FM in Hilo and 93.1 FM in Kona), from 4:30-6 p.m., with live audio streaming at www.b97hawaii.com .
The event also will be livestreamed on the Big Island Press Club’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/TheBigIslandPressClub and the KWXX and B97/B93 Facebook pages.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no live audience. The Big Island Press Club is using the latest guidance to keep the candidates, the moderator and the broadcast technical team properly distanced and safe during the forum.
During the primary, the Big Island Press Club solicited questions from its members and the community at large. The 15 candidates running for mayor during the primary were presented with the top questions from that endeavor; the results were printed on the Big Island Press Club website, its social media channels and in local newspapers.
Since 1967, the Big Island Press Club has been protecting the public’s right to know. Serving as a watchdog for openness and credibility for Hawaii Island, the organization hosts several events throughout the year, including the annual awarding of scholarships.
