In an effort to assist front-line health care professionals who continue to selflessly risk their own health during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Boys and Girls Club of the Big Island is providing hot meals for them so they can continue to focus on the level of care now required.

Boys and Girls Club of the Big Island will provide the front-line employees of Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home with evening meals from Monday through Friday.

All meals provided are free, as the club’s way to show its support for the community and gratitude, and to thank those who care for Hawaii Island’s treasured veterans.

Forty to 50 hot meals will be provided each day through the Boys and Girls Club of the Big Island Hilo kitchen facilities and transported to the veterans home by the club’s board of director volunteers.

The first day of delivery was Sept. 2.

“Our community veterans mean a lot to us as they have served and sacrificed so much to ensure our freedoms,” said a press release from the club about the meal deliveries. “We want to take care of our front-line health care professionals that take care of our vets!”

The club thanks front-line professionals and Yukio Okutsu for everything they are providing during these challenging times.

Anyone who wants to help the club in its meal mission can mail donations to Boys and Girls Club of the Big Island, 100 Kamakahonu St., Hilo, HI 96720.
